empty tomb, inc. is a Christian research and service organization. On a local level, it coordinates direct services to people in need in cooperation with area congregations. On a national level, it studies church member giving patterns of historically Christian churches, including Roman Catholic, mainline and evangelical Protestant, Anabaptist, Pentecostal, Orthodox, and fundamentalist communions. empty tomb publishes the annual State of Church Giving series. Staff also work with a select number of congregations, discovering ways to reverse the negative giving trends indicated by national data, through its project, The National Money for Mission Program.

Current research monitors and analyzes church member giving patters, and is published in The State of Church Giving series produced by empty tomb, inc. The description of dynamics affecting current giving patterns is presented in Behind The Stained Glass Windows: Money Dynamics in The Church (Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books, 1996).
